It’s been FOREVER since I last did a Face of the Day entry! I’m so happy because now, I finally managed to earn enough to get myself a DSLR to take proper self shots with! If you don’t know, I’ve been waiting to get one for about a year and I swore then, that I would spend my first pay cheque on a much better camera. And I did! I got myself a Nikon D5100 after much consideration and eliminating out other camera models that either didn’t have good reviews, were too expensive or didn’t have a swivel screen. This camera takes HD videos too, so I really might get to do videos in the near future!
I’m pretty excited about this. My camera kit came with a remote control apart from other things like leather straps and a tripod, which was what I wanted as well. Now, the only thing left to complete my package is an LED ring light and maybe a nice backdrop screen, the latter of which could probably wait.
Today I’d like to feature my first FOTD in about 5 months. It was taken under indoor lighting, so nothing really fantastic but the picture quality is way better than what my Casio Exilim can do. This look was done up for the Maybelline + Soyato event at Zouk last Friday night and the pictures were taken after I’d come home from the party. I figured bright colours went well with Maybelline’s current theme of New (York) Me so I gave myself bright blue eyeliner on my lower lids to create a popping effect. Do tell me what you think!
For Face: Dior’s Diorskin Forever Compact Foundation in 020 Light Beige and Clinique’s Blushing Blush Powder Blush in 104 Carefree Coral.
For Eyes: Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in Binge and Electric, the darker shade of L’Oreal’s HIP Bright Shadow Duo in 224 Showy and Fairy Drops’ mascara.
For Brows: The darker shade of Paul & Joe’s Eyebrow Powder in 01.
For Lips: Sephora’s Ultimate Lip Balm SPF 15 and YSL’s Rouge Volupté in 01.
This look is nothing special but is easy and quick to create. The focus is on the eyes and the bright under eye liner, so everything else is kept simple and doesn’t take attention away from it. I wanted to put on some falsies too but I was running late due to work before that.
My lips have recently been diagnosed with eczema, which means that from now on, they will be extremely sensitive to lip products. At this point in time, many lip products which gave me no problems before currently break me out in blisters, as you can see in the picture above. It’s terribly annoying but there’s no cure so I’ll just have to make do with it. I’m just pretty bummed that I can’t use my favourite YSL lippie and many other awesome lip products like balms anymore. For now, Sephora’s Ultimate Lip Balm SPF 15 is the only lip balm that works for me. I’m still on the lookout for other lip balms that are suited for sensitive lips, so if you know of any, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or email me and let me know!
