I’ve been meaning to do up this list of the best beauty products I’ve laid my hands on since the end of last year, but didn’t have the chance or time to. This list features makeup and skincare products that I just can’t seem to put down no matter what. I hope you find something interesting here; Feel free to click on the links to read my reviews on some of the products!
1) Favourite Foundation – Dior’s Diorskin Forever Compact SPF 25++
This compact powder, in short, mattifies my skin and has a medium, buildable coverage. It does not break me out and can be applied with a brush, such as the Becca Cosmetics Retractable Kabuki Makeup Brush.
2) Favourite Blush – Illamasqua’s Powder Blusher in Ambition
This blush has just enough pigmentation and shimmer to highlight cheekbones and bring out the colour of my skin! See some close-up pictures of the blush here.
3) Favourite Lipstick Shade – Vapour Organic Beauty’s Siren Lipstick in Possess
Attempts to find a dupe for this shade have proved futile. This shade is the perfect natural one for my lips. To tell if a lipstick shade looks natural on you, it should be as close to the colour of your tongue as possible. See how this lipstick looks on me in my Sweet Valentine’s Look.
4) Favourite Mascara – Fairy Drops’ Platinum Mascara Waterproof Type
This mascara is my Holy Grail. Ever since I tried this, I can’t use any other mascara because this one totally volumises and lengthens my lashes the way I desire. It also doesn’t flake as far as I can remember and it washes off easily with eye makeup remover.
5) Favourite Eyebrow Powder – Bobbi Brown Cosmetics’ Eyeshadow in 61 Saddle
This eyeshadow shade is one of the two shades that make up the Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Dark Brow Kit. It’s a shade that isn’t too dark nor too light, and it’s also not reddish, unlike the ones from Benefit Cosmetics. Perfect for an Asian skin tone.
6) Favourite Smokey Eye Palette – Sleek Makeup’s iDivine 596 Bad Girl Palette
This palette consists of 12 shades that range from black, silver, blue and green to purple. There are also two highlighter shades. The palette comes with a mirror that pans the entire length of the packaging and a double-ended sponge applicator. It’s perfect as a travel companion and gives you great pigmentation payoff. Just what you need for a girls’ night out in town when you’re on holidays. This palette is available on Luxola.com.
7) Favourite Nail Polish Brand and Shade – Deborah Lippmann’s Ruby Red
I love Deborah Lippmann polishes because not only are they cruelty-free, the colours are so pretty and the quality of the polishes is value-for-money. Ruby Red is my favourite lacquer shade of all time (so far) because I just love the red glitter on black! It’s so festive, yet it still retains a sense of mystery.
8) Favourite Makeup Brush – Sigma Makeup’s Eye Shading E55 Brush
The E55 is my current favourite brush for applying eye makeup. It picks up just enough product and manages to place the colours right where I want it. It also blends well, which is a must for creating the smokey eye look. I got this brush as part of the Mrs. Bunny Travel Kit. The blue and pink colour combination of the brush – and the fact that the brand is cruelty-free – makes me go weak in the knees!
9) Favourite Fragrance – Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum
I love how this scent is a mix of sweetness and musk. It’s very elegant, ladylike and refreshing. Plus, the bottle is so pretty! Sorry Cara, I haven’t got a whiff of the Burberry Body yet!
10) Favourite Makeup Remover – Shu Uemura’s Ultime8 Cleansing Oil
Although this cleansing oil has a strong chemical smell, I’ve since gotten used to it. Compared to the other cleansing oils from Shu Uemura, this one has got a much lighter consistency and I love how it feels like water. It removes makeup but doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry. Some good news: the price of this product has been revised (in Singapore, at least) and is now more affordable!
11) Favourite Eye Cream – SK-II’s Skin Signature Eye Cream
It effectively lightens dark circles and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles. Nothing more I can ask for. It may cost a bit much for some, but for the amount that comes in the bottle (it lasts for months), and for the results it gives, I’d say it’s well worth it!
12) Favourite Face Mask Sheet – My Beauty Diary’s Arbutin A
Arbutin is an ingredient that helps to lighten the skin and this mask does just that. When placed in the refrigerator before use, it helps to perk you up and makes you feel refreshed afterwards. Great for those long summer days! I recommend getting a box of 10 masks at a time.
13) Favourite Leave-on Face Mask – Fancl’s Overnight Hydrating Pack
This product was initially meant to be a limited edition item but because of its huge success, I’m so glad to say that it’s now part of Fancl’s permanent range! Yes! I’ve not stopped using this ever since I got my hands on it in September last year, and I don’t think I’ve ever come across another mask quite like this one. This mask is so luxurious and it helps to brighten and even out the skin tone overnight. You’ll see results the morning after your first application.
14) Favourite Overall Skincare Product – Skin Street’s Sonic Cleanse
This is a cheaper alternative to the Clarisonic and the Sirius Skin Sonic that works just as well. It cleanses deep within the pores and I don’t have to exfoliate as often anymore. I no longer get whiteheads and I also breakout less often now that I’ve incorporated this into my skincare routine. I will never look back.
15) Favourite Body Moisturiser – Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea Lavender Honey Drops Body Cream
I love the way this moisturiser feels on my skin and how it’s got little balls of honey mixed throughout the cream. I also love the scent because it calms me down at night and puts me in a relaxed state of mind before I head to bed. Even in the day, the scent helps me to de-stress.
