This month, we celebrated Singapore’s national day with much pride and joy. I love my country but if there’s one thing I really, really, really can’t stand about it, it’s the heat and humidity. Granted, I have a higher-than-normal metabolic rate, and so I feel it worse than everybody else. If my hair had brains and a mouth to speak with (which would be quite freaky), it would agree wholeheartedly with me.
I have flat, limp, virgin hair. Other than trying out a D.I.Y. hair dye kit once at home, and having it rebonded a maximum of say, twice, about 8-10 years ago, my hair has not touched anything else. I’m proud of this little achievement, actually, because other than the frizziness on super humid days, it’s otherwise practically soft and smooth. But that’s the thing: Every day in Singapore is a humid day!
Sophie had an amazing transformation with the Goldwell Kerasilk Keratin hair treatment. When I first watched the video above, I felt this hair treatment was too good to be true but right after that, I also saw some real life before-and-after:

The difference between a keratin treatment and a Brazilian blowout is that although both are beauty treatments meant to fortify the hair and smoothen it, the keratin treatment does not contain any of the harmful formaldehyde you find in a Brazilian blowout. Formaldehyde is a carcinogen that is extremely toxic, corrosive and can cause death when taken in very small amounts, regardless of whether it’s breathed in or consumed. How Brazilian blowouts came about honestly perplexes me!
Anyhow, I was immediately sold and booked an appointment for my own keratin experience. The date? 11th August. The venue? Papilio Beauty Salon.
The salon-exclusive treatment took me about 2.5 hours from start to end. If I count the number of individual steps taken from the very first wash to the last blow dry, it’s a total of 10 steps! I won’t go into details about what these 10 steps are, but you’ll want to know that you can colour and style your hair immediately after the treatment – a first of its kind! The effects last up to 5 months post treatment, and you can go back to the salon for a new session. According to a friend of mine who is a fan of keratin treatments, the more of such sessions you go for, the better your hair gets, and the longer the effects last for.
At the end of each session, or whenever you need to restock, you can take home with you a home care kit (small or jumbo sized) catered to your hair type. Great hair is all about maintenance!
Although my hair did become flatter immediately after the treatment, it lasted like this for at most a week, after which the volume came back. It also took about 2 days for the chemical smell to be gone. As I write this, it’s been about 1.5 weeks post-treatment and my hair doesn’t frizz up as often due to the humidity. It is also more manageable as it does not get tangled up as easily as before.
At the moment, there are more than 50 salons in Singapore which offer this treatment (and its products) exclusively. To find out which salon’s closest to you, call 6681 4743 and enquire. If you’ll like to give Papilio a try, they can be contacted at:
- Papilio, BLK 637 Veerasamy Road, #02-115 Rowell Court, S200637 (Tel: +65 6295 3323)
So tell me, have you ever tried out a hair keratin treatment and are you a fan?
Stay gorgeous,
Roxanne
