Applying makeup should feel relaxing and enjoyable, as much as it is taking it off at the end of the day and applying skin care afterwards. You can watch the first part of my night beauty ritual here, where I show you how to remove eye makeup effectively and completely using cotton buds.
In today’s blog entry, I show you my skin care routine that comes right after cleansing every night. This is a simple 4-step process, which means you can do this when you’re travelling light and will still have the essentials your skin needs.
To summarise, the order of the products you apply should be:
- eye cream
- spot treatment
- serum
- moisturiser
Nope, I don’t use a toner because I’ve realised that toners are generally pretty useless when it comes to skincare. I’ve never believed, no matter how much I’ve tried to convince myself, that you need one to remove whatever remains on your skin after cleansing. If you’ve still got stuff on your face after cleansing, what you need is a better cleanser or a more thorough cleansing ritual – definitely not a toner.
Although I use the Rootrition Eye Cream from The Remedy (I’m actually testing it in this video), this eye cream can be quite hard to find if you’re not in Korea. Instead, I highly recommend the L’OCCITANE IMMORTELLE PRECIOUS EYE BALM, which is my favourite eye cream of the moment. Eye creams always go first because the skin around the eyes are the thinnest and you really don’t want to get anything else on it.
Spot treatments are applied next, directly onto parts of the skin that need it. Because spot treatments contain ingredients that specifically treat your acne, such as anti-bacterial chemicals, they work best when in direct contact with it. This will also protect your skin from further infection and will speed up recovery.
Serum always comes before moisturiser, so if you don’t have a serum you can just skip this step. I recommend having one though, as a good product really gives your skin a boost. This serum from Round A’Round is quite difficult to find (but oh so good) if you’re outside Korea, so you can use what you already own. If you don’t currently own a serum, you can pick one of the popular serums on Nordstrom to experiment with.
I hope you’ve found this quick video useful, especially if you’re confused about the basic steps in which to apply your nighttime skin care products. If you’re travelling for more than a few days, it’s a good idea to bring along a mask sheet or two for a quick fix to help keep you looking fresh throughout your trip. And if you think there is an awesome serum I should try out, do let me know about it as well!
Sleep and repair it,
Roxanne
