Christmas is always my favourite time of the year, and this year’s no different. A few weeks back, L’Occitane asked if I would like to gift a special someone a treat from their holiday collection and of course I agreed. Nothing like a good, reliable brand (which works with ORBIS to fight avoidable blindness) that so many of us love.
I was originally invited to pick two gift sets from the holiday collection – one for a loved one and one for myself. Seeing that I have way too many skincare products at the moment (and some yet-unused L’Occitane products which I’ve been saving for a rainy day), I decided to pick two gifts for two very special people in my life.
Gifting, to me, has a deeper meaning than just the present I’m giving. I find it quite a bonding activity because it starts from knowing the person I’m giving the gift to; understanding his or her needs, likes and wants; finding something suitable for his or her lifestyle; and getting something within my means. I don’t believe in buying something super expensive to impress anyone. Instead, I’d rather spend on something I’m pretty sure the person on the receiving end will find useful. And at the end of it all, when your loved one appreciates what they’ve been given, they’ll know that you understand them and the bond between you becomes stronger.
That said, I decided my recipients for L’Occitane’s two gift sets would be my very best friend, Alexis, whom I’ve known since we were 10, and Monsieur Ratatouille, whom I met many years ago in a land far, far away. I dropped by the L’Occitane store at Ngee Ann City Singapore and was so relaxed by the Christmas songs playing in the background. The holiday spirit can never come too early!
It was such a fun experience, shopping for L’Occitane gift sets and having such nice sales assistants to help me out, and I really love doing this! I don’t know why, but I generally feel better giving something than receiving it. It may have to do with my upbringing, but I’m working towards being more comfortable taking from others from time to time as well, instead of wanting to only give all the time.
Anyhow, I created a video to share with you my shopping and gifting experience and I hope you’ll enjoy watching it. This is the video I’ve had the most fun making so far – you get to see the L’Occitane store I visited, as well as Alexis’ and Monsieur Ratatouille’s reactions when they receive their gifts!
Do you have a gifting story to share? If so, you can post it up on social media with the hashtag #GiftedwithLove. Flash your post at any L’Occitane store in Singapore to redeem a set of 10ml hand cream and fragrance vial, plus a chance to win a L’Occitane gifting experience of your own, just like I did.
