When you say the word, “France,” the first thing that pops into anyone’s head is Paris. And why not, when la tour Eiffel is the very thing you can’t shake out of your imagery?
I love Paris to bits. I still remember the awe that overwhelmed me when I stood in the middle of the Louvre for the first time. Amidst the wonderful road trips to les calanques de Cassis, Monaco and Lyon; and ski trips to Les Deux Alpes, there were less glamourous things I had to do while spending the summer in Paris.
Like climbing up and down a hill (you’d have needed a torch at night, or you’d fall right off) for groceries at a convenience store near my place that no one knew about. Or waiting in the freezing cold for a bus that was never coming (because the notice said there was no service on Sundays and I couldn’t read French). Or trying to figure out if the train at the platform (that was going in the right direction) would take me to the stop I needed to get to – and then patting myself in the back for knowing just what to look out for in a split second. Now I could pretend to be a true blue Parisian.
But summers in Paris are hard to come by and whenever there are pockets of free time, I find myself drifting towards those carefree days again. Wanderlust can be evil, sometimes. Which was why I requested for LOVE X STYLE X LIFE BY GARANCE DORE this Christmas, the one book I knew would make the waiting game more bearable (Merci Anne!).

Not only is this book such a fun read, it also takes your mind off everything and onto the quiet cobbled walkways on which throngs of cafes lie. It takes you through a journey of style and essentials, as well as the inspiring life story of Garance DorĂ©. I mean, if she was living off a couch around her 30s (and yet is now one of the most successful fashion bloggers and photographers in the world), I think I’m not faring too badly in my own life either. Finding your dreams isn’t easy, but it seems like you often find them in the most unexpected places and through the most random situations in life.
I’m almost halfway through the book, and God knows what I’m going to read once I’m done with it. But if you are looking for a nice relaxing read that would give you a new perspective in life, you might enjoy flipping through the pages of this in the bubble bath. A word of warning though: You might end up questioning why you aren’t already enjoying cocktails in Saint Germain.
Paris, je t’aime,
Roxanne
