Review & FOTD: Shimmery Brown Eyes with Kate Cosmetics

I finally had some time this past Friday evening to play around with some new Kate Cosmetics makeup and create a shimmery brown smoky eye look. It’s my first time experimenting with Kate Cosmetics and I liked what I finally came up with. This look features products from Kate’s SS 2012 Collection and here are some shots I took of the items I used:

I apologise for the crappy pictures above. I’m still trying to get used to my new Nikon DSLR (the D5100) and am in the midst of learning how to adjust the lighting for my photoshoots and all that technical stuff. I’m still thinking if I should invest in a ring light. What do you all think? So anyhow, this is the look I came up with:

For Face: Dior’s Diorskin Forever Compact Foundation in 020 Light Beige, Estee Lauder’s Signature Silky Powder Blush in 02 Pink Kiss and Candy Doll’s blush in Peach Pink.

For Eyes: Kate Cosmetics’ Real Create Eyes Palette in BR-2, Kate Cosmetics’ Eyeliner Pencil in BR-1 and Kate Cosmetics’ Art Dial Mascara.

For Brows: The darker shade of Paul & Joe’s Eyebrow Powder in 01.

For Lips: Sephora’s Ultimate Lip Balm SPF 15 and Vapour Organic Beauty’s Siren Lipstick in 418 Possess.

There’s a video (in Japanese) online that explains how to use the Real Create Eyes Palette and if you watch it, I didn’t use it the way it’s supposed to be used. I wanted to create something darker, smoky and glamorous and I didn’t use the shade in the middle of the palette. The look in the video shows something more subtle and brighter. Check it out below.

I like the eyeshadow palette used here because although it only consists of 5 shades, the shades complement one another nicely. The cream shadow (“glow color”) acts as a base, which brings out the intensity of the other powder shadows that are added on top, but if applied too much it can crease in the middle of the day. The eyeliner glides on very smoothly and doesn’t tug at the lids. As for the mascara, I think it’s really cool that Kate Cosmetics came up with a new concept for it. It’s not the usual run-of-the-mill mascara and neither is it one of those vibrating or rotating ones. The Art Dial Mascara doesn’t even have a brush but in its place is a comb that separates lashes while you coat the mascara on. It has a dial at the end of the wand and when turned, it dispenses product in between the comb’s teeth. In this way, all your lashes are coated with liquid and they don’t clump as well. Maybe it’s time someone invented a fibre mascara with the same concept.

Also, I know my skin is not perfect but that’s the way I am. I’ve never had perfect skin for as long as I remember, and this is just about as good as it gets. I’ve got large pores and pits from past acne and honestly, there’s really nothing I can do about them unless I spend thousands to get laser resurfacing treatments (and everyone should know that the size of pores cannot be changed).
