It’s always been the case for many of us, that every time one of us wants a new “It” bag or a pair of shoes, we’d wait till someone left for a vacation to bring us back tax-free items. However, there’s an alternative known as NiMe, where we can get what we’d like at a lower price and with less hassle (because come on, how many of us really like our friends to say, “Can you get this bag for me?” instead of “Have a great trip!” as we look forward to exploring foreign lands?).
NiMe (pronounced “nee-mee”) Shop has been around for two to three years now and has been giving us girls the dream bags or accessories we’ve always wanted to own. They are a parallel importer from the United States and Europe and they stock many, many brands of luxury goods. I dropped by their boutique (address will be revealed at the end of this feature) and got the chance to visit their warehouse! It’s truly a pity I couldn’t take any pictures of what goes on behind the scenes, but believe me when I tell you it’s heaven. Some of the brands I came across included Coach, Celine, Hermès, Chanel, Gucci, Dior and Burberry.
Every single item at NiMe Shop is hand-picked, guaranteed authentic and brand new. Their quality is assured before they are shipped back to Singapore. New stocks arrive once or twice a week, so you’ll never run out of options! While their boutique is a permanent store which you can visit when you like, I highly recommend attending their sale events, which are held about once or twice a month at hotel ballrooms, the expo or at convention halls (which are currently undergoing renovations). This is because the sale events are where the bulk of their products are, and so the chances of you finding what you are looking for is much higher as well.
The nice thing about NiMe Shop is that sometimes, they stock latest collections even before the local boutiques have them. In addition, their prices are lower than the regular retail prices in other stores (up to 70% less) due to the low rental of their boutique. Of course, they won’t be cheaper or comparable to what you’d pay overseas but if you take your airfares into account (and the possibility of ruffling some feathers in getting people to buy you bags back while they are on holiday), I’d say it’s pretty competitive. NiMe Shop does have an online store (nimeshop.com), but the items seen up there are only 15-20% of what they have in stock, since most of them get snapped up pretty quickly at the monthly sale events.
If you’ll like to receive news and updates about their sale events, such as the location and dates, check out and “Like” their Facebook page for notifications. Just a heads up: their upcoming sale event will be held on 1st June 2013 at Mandarin Orchard Singapore. Do turn up early to avoid the long queue and disappointment of not getting your dream bag! Their boutique is located at No.21 Bukit Batok Crescent, WCEGA Tower, #02-70, Singapore 658065 (opening hours). They can be reached by phone at +65 6659 5833 and all email enquiries can be sent to enquiries@nimeshop.com.
