London. Paris. New York. And now, Singapore.
This set of the John Frieda Luxurious Volume range came just in time when I was on the search for something for my hair. My flat, limp albeit healthy hair. It’s fine if my hairdresser says I’m balding in the front – actually I’m really not – but it’s not fine if my hair can’t have its own backbone. While haircuts were some of the worst mistakes in Jim Morrison’s life, mine has got to be not styling my hair enough.
This range did meet up to certain expectations, though I must have you know that my expectations weren’t high to begin with. The range consists of four haircare products:
- Touchably Full Shampoo
- Touchably Full Conditioner
- Volume Building Mousse
- All-Day Hold Hairspray
The one I use the most is undeniably the shampoo.
The shampoo lathers well, which is something I very much like in shampoos for my waist-long hair. It cleans well and smells great too. It does volumise the hair a little but it works much better when used together with the conditioner from the range.
This conditioner is my favourite product from this range! It not only works effectively when used with the Touchably Full Shampoo , but also when used with other shampoos, provided that they don’t weigh your hair down (which many hair volumising products do, ironically). If there’s one conditioner I would get for the long term to fight flatness, this would be it.
You could say that this is one of the few hair mousses out there that I’ve actually used on my own hair. As a person who doesn’t style her hair at all – I know sometimes I should – using this mousse is pretty fool-proof. Just shake the can, tilt it upside down and dispense a small amount onto your palms. Then smooth it over your towel-dried hair from the roots down. I guess another reason I rarely use mousse is because I don’t wash my hair before heading out. So many of these products are meant for towel-dried hair, though after using it on completely dry hair, I don’t quite see the difference. I’m guessing the dampness helps to better spread the product.
Again, I don’t use this product much but for the times that I do, this hairspray manages to hold strands in place for several hours at least. It’s also easy to wash off at the end of the day – with the Touchably Full Shampoo, of course. It doesn’t smell too strongly for a spray, which makes using it more bearable as opposed to other more heavy-duty products.
Overall, I’d say this range is satisfactory and if you can only get one product, it would have to be the conditioner (get it now from feelunique.com). Edna Turnblad would approve.
