As January draws to an end, the next thing on our minds inevitably points towards the 14th of February. For some, it’s quite the exciting day, because, you know, it’s the first time of their lives they’re celebrating it with someone. For others, it can get rather annoying, seeing girls walk down Orchard Road with human-sized teddy bears with smug satisfaction imprinted on their faces. There’s no guessing which category I belong to, but just to set the record straight, I’m somewhere in between the two.
I do like Valentine’s Day but to be honest, any day could be a perfect Valentine’s. And what would anyone do with teddy bears that aren’t of any use? Guys, if there’s one thing you should not get a potential lover for V-day, it’s definitely some cuddly tuft of wool (unless it’s her kind of thing). We ladies like something more… practical these days. You know, like makeup *ahem*. Or maybe I’m just getting old.
The Etude House Chocolate Kiss Collection.
It just doesn’t have to be Hello Kitty for something to be pink, cute and girly. Take for example the Etude House Chocolate Kiss Collection. Specially created for Valentine’s Day this year, the collection consists of four main items:

- Chocolate Kiss Perfumed Lip Set, S$16
- Chocolate Kiss Nail Kit, S$12
The perfumed spray.
The perfumed spray has a rose fragrance and contains extracts of elder, peony and daisy. It doesn’t last long and isn’t strong, so it’s more suited for a close-up with that someone special.
The Chocolate Kiss Hand Cream Set.
The hand cream set contains three hand cream tubes in a pretty pink box. Can’t decide if you – or she – like rose, lily or cherry blossom the most? Have a whiff of all three in this set. The tubes are 30ml each, so they are small enough to carry to work or school. I’m currently using Lily, and am giving away one tube of Rose (in addition to other items) in this entry!
The perfumed lip sets.
Each perfumed lip set comes with a lip tint for colour and a lip essence for shine and moisture. The one in pink is named “Pink Kiss,” while the more orange-y one is called “Peach Kiss.” Pink Kiss features scents of apricot, florals and verdant with a base note of musk. Peach Kiss is more citrusy and peachy. I tried out Peach Kiss and while the lip tint gives a nice natural-looking shade, the essence is much sheerer.

Anyone who enjoys D.I.Y. manicures might like giving the Nail Kits a shot. Not only are there two nail polishes of decent size, the kits also come with nail stickers to add some fun into painting.
Although not exactly part of the Valentine’s Day series, Etude House has also introduced two Play Color Eyes eyeshadow palettes, to be launched February 2nd this year. Simply numbered Palette #1 and Palette #2, each palette consists of 10 shades that complement one another.

The shades in Palette #1 are, from left to right, Party Gold, Burning Red, Temptation, Naked, Pony Tail, Modern City, Chic Blue, All Night, Snow Queen and Military Khaki.

The shades in Palette #2 are, from left to right, Clutch Brow, Coco Brownie, Pop Champagne, French Kiss, Misty Rose, Diva, Glam Forest, Midnight Star, Sparkling Wine and Leopard Brown. Palette #1 can be used to create bolder or smokey eye looks while Palette #2 veers towards being a safer option. Each palette contains matte and shimmer shades, and retails for S$37.90.
