If you’re reading this post, chances are you’ve shopped online before. What if I told you, you could earn some of that money back when you spend it on a new dress?
Mais oui, bien sûr.
If you frequent online fashion stores like ASOS, Zalora, Lazada and Shopbop; buy travel tickets or booked accommodation on Rail Europe, Expedia and Agoda; or even grab a coupon or two from Groupon, getting some of that money back will save you some serious cash over time and lessen your spending.
I was invited to give Shopback a try some weeks ago, and to summarise, I did get a percentage of my money spent back while shopping online. Shopback is a cashback site that pays you to shop with their partnered merchants – more than 500 of them. I used it to get something new for myself on Zalora and here’s a short tutorial (using Safari, with screenshots) for you, so you can see how it looks like before signing up.
When landing on Shopback’s website for the first time, you’ll see two frames on your screen – one on the left and the main one on the right:
As you can see, there are two ways in which you can sign up for an account. One is via Facebook, and the other with a personal email address. I picked Facebook.
Once you click on the blue “OK” button, you’ll get directed to the following pop-ups. These are a set of instructions on how you should set your browser so that cookies are enabled and your shopping purchases can be tracked by Shopback. This step is necessary for getting your money back when you spend online via Shopback.
Once you’re done with that, click on the green “START SHOPPING” button. This’ll take you to your home screen, where you can see what merchants there are and how much you can get back when you shop at each of them. You’ll also notice on the top of the left frame that your cash back is set to $0.00.

Scrolling down the frame, you’ll see some of the more popular stores online and some categories to help you start your shopping.
Once you get to this stage, all you have to do is just to shop. As mentioned earlier, I’m going shopping at Zalora!
Click on the red “Get Cashback” button under the brand logo.
You’ll then see a list of promotions and codes the merchant is offering at the moment. Pick one and get shopping!
Once you’ve decided on a promotion or a bonus, note down any coupon codes and click on the red “Get Cashback” button. If you’re selecting a discount code, this means you’ll be benefitting from a discount and getting cash back on top of that. You’ll be re-directed to the online store itself and you can then shop, place your order and make your purchase as per usual. Once you have made a payment, Shopback tracks how much you have paid for your items and you’ll get a percentage of it back. Depending on the merchant, this amount will vary. For me, my cash back was received within the next few hours, though Shopback advises a processing wait time of 1-2 days.

The best part about cashback from Shopback is that you actually do get your money back (We’re talking real dollars here), either into your Paypal account or your normal bank account. Shopback partners with local banks, such as DBS, POSB, OCBC and UOB, and all you need to do to get your money credited into your account is to provide very simple details as shown below:
To get to this page, click on “Account” and then on “My Payments” on the left frame.
Scroll down on the right frame to see details are needed. Fill those details in.
Once you’ve filled in your bank details, click on the red “Set Payment Method” button and you’re set! Just sit back and wait for the cash back to be confirmed and categorised under “Redeemable” instead of “Pending.” Then, you can request for cash out and watch the magic happen in your personal bank account.
