Almost every single skin care product out there claims to make your skin look better, brighter and more even toned. Some also claim to reduce acne and scarring. Some of them work, some of them don’t. But the most important factor is what you do to take care of your skin; the products are secondary.

Here are 5 very simple tips you can follow to improve your complexion:

    1) Cleanse, tone and moisturise

Maintaining a good twice-daily regime is the most important step you can take towards a good complexion. Some people can skip the toner if it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference, or if you have very sensitive skin and have been advised by a dermatologist not to use one.

    2) Stay away from fast food

Fast food is not only unhealthy but it clogs up your internal digestive system. It remains in your body longer than most other foods and this means your body has to work harder to remove it. This often results in stress in your body and you get pimples or acne. If I take fast food more than once a week, no amount of cleansing will prevent the zits from coming!

    3) One cup of green tea a day

Green tea is a well-known antioxidant. That’s why celebrity nutritionists and celebrities alike take it on a daily basis. One cup a day is great and not too much, especially for someone who’s just switched to drinking tea. I personally prefer green tea brewed from tea leaves than tea bags as you can determine the strength of the tea you’re making.

    4) Exfoliate every 2-3 days

Doing a face scrub or exfoliating your face every 2-3 days is a great way to remove dead skin cells and the pesky whiteheads and blackheads. If you have oily skin and/or large pores, this is a must to ensure that none of those icky stuff remain entrenched in your skin and result in pimples.

    5) Blot with a tissue

If you have to blot, use a tissue instead of a blotting sheet because the latter absorbs more than it should and takes away some necessary facial oil. When your skin senses a loss of this important oil, it starts to generate more and you’ll end up in a vicious cycle of your skin producing more oil and you having to blot more often.
